program without paying one penny for it. they added another trillion dollars in tax cuts for the wealthy. what was the result. ? these are the facts. the result was by the time the rain that turned back over to barack obama and me, they had doubled the national debt in 8 years. the fourth, fifth, or six days we were in office, we were sitting in the oval office at sunset, mr. president, looking at his year's budget you are going to have a trillion dollars deficit. he said, i have not done anything yet. [laughter] he said, no mr. president, the budget they passed guarantees no matter what you do, you will have a trillion dollar debt this year in the budget. a trillion dollar deficit, to be precise. these guys talk about the national debt. what date did generated the -- what they did generate -- generated the jobs since world war ii. it gave us this great recession. what they have not told us is what they are willing to do about it. we laid out a $4 trillion debt reduction plan over next 10 years. we have already passed $1 trillion of it. these guys voted against everything. not only did t

knows taxes are due on april 15. we set up tax centers on the base three months prior and we take active duty military personnel off their regular duties and they go in and assist people with their taxes. you have people assisting with federal and state taxes. we provide nothing of the sort for voting registration. the move act was supposed to get offices set up on the basis. everybody could have gone in to check in with that voting assistance officer. that has never been in place while we were on active duty. we don't want a stack of voter registration ballots sitting on a counter somewhere. we want them to physically go in and say whether they want to register or not. this is the only way we can track it and find out if it is sure apathy which i find hard to believe. or is it just not having access? host: there is a project called a military voter protection project and they compared 2008 ballot requests and 2012 ballot requests and looking at key states, they thought there was a great difference as far bell requests. do you believe there is a significant difference? guest: this is hor

taxes on her home in stanford. here is what i hear what i am talking to people in the state -- they don't want this race to be about allegations about personal finances or attack ads. they want this race to be about them. they want to know which one of us is going to fight hard for their job, which one is going to stop the outsourcing of work from connecticut factories, they want to know how we're going to fix the schools. they won this race to be about them and that's going to be my focus over the course of the last four weeks of this race, talking about the issues that matter to the people of this state. >> i agree that we need to talk about the issues in this state. an occasional financial slip is not what we're talking about here. but you need to be honest with the people of connecticut. you need to be honest about your special interest loans and your attendance in washington. those are issues that are important to the folks of connecticut because they want to know can they trust the congressman or senator they're sending to washington to represent them and work and fight for them.

to tackle at an issue, increasing their taxes? >> let's start with the families. they will get their attention. the voters have to understand all this, which they did not, and voters need to understand what we have to do to get all this corrected, and they do not. if we ever get that over to the voters, they will vote for the people who are geared up, ready, and know how to do it and are running on that basis, and then we can change this country forever and get us back to where we used to be when i was a boy in the depression. why schoolteachers and would have been doctors, lawyers, indian chiefs today. with luck they were making $200 a month, but they were talented, they brought out the best in all of us. they were by example really fine people, and with the highest qualities. all that got transmitted to the children at class a even if they were not getting it at home. >> when you were running you were talking about increasing not necessarily dollars per capita, but investing in education, communications, and transportation. even while trying to reduce deficits and debt, you w

to affect economic reform. especially the economic reform, tax reform, energy reform, the key elements. my guests -- and i'm really guessing, my guess is what we will see is a stable outcome in 2013 where the prospects for reform are probably less than they are now. that's not a pretty picture. it means you have more people in the tent, potentially, so that people feel their voices are being heard. are there such -- are there such things as constituents in pakistan politics? people are being represented, but does this mean we can look forward to a government that can tackle the big issues? i'm not terribly optimistic. that would be why america and other like-minded countries the japanese, etc., if they want to see change, it is the opposite of what a dollar of what tells you -- change comes from without. the most potentially positive thing that could happen that would change the structure of things in a good way would be opening up to india. opening up to indian capital and have an opportunity which south asian investment from the eye of state and elsewhere. i don't see the domestic politi

evidence. there is the offshore tax havens, etc., and they built this story line in a swing state. the super pacs operating independently were not able to build that. you have situations in which two different super pacs would have conflicting add in the same market supporting mitt romney. one would say that barack obama is a really nice guy but he could not get the job done. in the next commercial break you have an ad that says barack obama was never a nice guy, he is a radical socialist lunatic who's trying to take your job. the more money did not feed into a larger narrative in a way that i think the romney campaign would have preferred. a second reason why it is less effective now is under sec rules, the super pac campaign are able to get lowest available rate for their advertising right now. super pacs are not allowed to do that. they are spending far more, sometimes three times as much, and to get the same money. did the third reason i think you're seeing things less effective, in the last month or two, obama's citizens are waking up and spending more dollars. a bunch of peo
